SEIU members at polical event supported by COPE funds.

  What is COPE?

COPE stands for the Committee on Political Education. COPE contributions are monies given voluntarily by members at a rate of $6 per month to fund Local 7's political activities.

Why should I contribute to COPE?

COPE contributions allow us to build strength and accumulate political power for members in an environment where corporate interests strive to undermine and limit unions' political clout. Your contribution gives working people a voice, and strengthens our ability to influence legislation affecting our members.

Who decides what to do with the money?

Local 7 and members of the Illinois Council decide how best to appropriate the COPE funds.

The COPE Committee is building power for our members by:

  • mobilizing friends, families, and other members to participate in political activity
  • representing our union politically in the community and the worksite
  • implementing campaign strategies to move our political initiatives and help elect candidates who embrace our issues

If you're interested in signing up for COPE contributions, or becoming active with COPE campaigns, contact the local office or
