Announcing the Launch of SEIU's Online Learning Center

This Webbased online education initiative will provide our officers, staff, worksite leaders, stewards and activists with interactive educational workshops that cover topics ranging from Contract Costing and Stewards' Legal Rights to Secretary-Treasurers' training. You may want to link to it from your "On The Job" section, or the space where you provide resources to stewards or delegates.

Below are the Workshops along with a brief description of what they cover.

Putting Your Rights to Work

Stewards, worksite leaders and other union activists can use this online training workshop to gain a better understanding of their legal rights under the National Labor Relations Act, and how they can use those rights to mobilize members around resolving grievances and workplace issues. (This module will be offered in Spanish later this year.)

Contract Costing & Analysis

Union staff, officers and bargaining committee members participating in the negotiations of collective bargaining agreements will find useful and practical costing formulas, math exercises and simulated contract proposal scenarios to brush up on their basic math skills and analysis of employer proposals.

Secretary-Treasurer Training

Secretary-Treasurers and other financial administrative staff will be provided with useful information on financial administrative aspects of managing a local union. Secretary-Treasurers and other financial administrative staff can obtain a certificate upon successful completion of all lessons.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE SITE

• SEIU's Online Learning Center will be in the public domain and open to all. This will not be a password-protected site.
• Once you get on the site, you will be able to read an overview of each Workshop and the Lessons they contain.
• You can gain access to various Web links and resource materials provided in the "Reading Room" that relate to the Workshops.
• You will have to register to take a lesson in any of the Workshops. However, you only have to register once to gain access to all the workshops.
• You will also be provided with your own personalized Progress Report that allows you to track your progress throughout the Workshops.
