Latino Empowerment: Abriendo Puertas al Futuro

"LCLAA builds political empowerment for Latino families, supports economic and social justice for all workers and promotes greater cultural diversity at the workplace."

Representing Hispanics in the 78 national and international unions of the AFL-CIO, the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), is the first National organization that   represents the views and concerns of Latino trade unionists and Hispanic workers seeking justice at the workplace.

LCLAA was founded in 1973 by local Latino trade union committees to promote participation by Hispanic trade unionists in a more responsive labor movement. LCLAA builds political empowerment of the Latino family, supports economic and social justice for all workers, and promotes greater cultural diversity at the workplace.

The challenge for LCLAA is to bring union members together in solidarity, regardless of race or ethnicity. With 65 Chapters throught out the country and Puerto Rico, LCLAA   members engage in different creative programs that promote political empowerment, cultural pride, and economic development of Latino workers and their families. LCLAA Chapters work to promote greater participation of Latinos in the political process by encouraging non-partisan voter registration, voter education and voter mobilization.

LCLAA also works in coalition with other Hispanic organizations to maximize support for economic and social policies and legislation that are essential to advance the interests

of Hispanics. LCLAA works within the Labor movement to improve and strengthen trade

unions by ensuring equal benefits and protection of union membership for all workers,

regardless of national origin, sex, religion or race.

LCLAA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Washington, DC.
